Weekend Posts: Downtown cowboys, chocolate faces, Tacoma rock legends and opening night at The Fair

NOSH LEAGUE RECAP: Masa bartender Emily Cooks licks the chocolate off here gloves as Affairs Cafe and Desserts owner Gay Landry laughs in the background.

Today will be the last day of hot temperatures for a while. We're looking at temps in the lower 70s over the next couple of days. Just watch: Even though it'll still be plenty warm out, everyone's going to be breaking out sweaters and stuff. Ridiculous.

If you zoned in on your television during the first full weekend of football, here's what we posted over the weekend:

We hung out at the Big Whisky Saloon Parking Lot Party.

We posted a recap with photos of the Nosh League event at Affairs Café.

Tacoma Rock and Roll Wall of Fame banquet is coming in October.

Scenes from opening night at the Puyallup Fair.

Bobble Tiki sees cowboys

Jonathan Harris paid tribute to the local military several times throughout his set.

Bobble Tiki gets itchy if he goes more than two blocks without seeing some poured concrete. He blames it all on the movie version of The Wizard of Oz. Not only is country life so dreary they couldn't bother filming it in Technicolor, but Judy Garland falls into that pen with all those shrieking pigs, and Ray Bolger bangs his thumb with a hammer. Scary Bobble Tiki tells you. But last night Bobble Tiki lightened up a bit and ventured out into the great outdoors for some country tunes and Jägermeister.

Bobble Tiki's decision to brave the pollen and cow pies was solidified when he discovered the country concert was actually held at a concrete parking lot in downtown Tacoma.

Big Whisky Saloon and 100.7 FM The Wolf-hosted another Parking Lot Party last night in Whisky's back parking lot. Beginning slowly, the crowd eventually filled the lot to suck up live country music by Jonathan Harris and Robbie Walden & The Gunslingers, dance on the outdoor dance floor, drink cold beer, eat barbecue, shoot paint balls at targets and ride "Bubba the Mechanical Bull."

What surprised Bobble Tiki the most was the large contingent of folks who actually watched first-run Bonanza episodes and not its reruns amid the dregs of Sunday-morning TV. Hopalong Cassidy represent.

PHOTOS: Funny hats and hands at Beer Fest

After a slow start to the summer season, many South Sounders share a common fantasy: It's a sunny Saturday afternoon in Tacoma, and hundreds of your friends and neighbors are out to partake in more than 80 (yes, 80) different beers that have been lovingly chosen for your drinking pleasure. That dream is a reality RIGHT NOW at the 21st Street Park as the Tacoma Craft Beer Fest has been going strong since noon.  The last beer will be poured at 9 p.m. so there's still plenty of time to join the masses.

The Weekly Volcano has been a part of the buzz since the gates opened. The vibe has been amazing. Part enthusiastic thirst for beer knowledge, part kickback chill on the green lawn, part loopy fun with props - oh yes, beer makes people do funny things. Check it out:

Like we said, the Tacoma Craft Beer Fest runs until 9 p.m. C'mon down!

There's a guillotine in Lakewood!

There's a guillotine sitting in the backyard of a home in Lakewood. We didn't grab a closer shot for obvious reasons.

PHOTOS: Saturday in Tacoma

Saturday night at the Tempest Lounge Kim Archer performed songs she plans to sing this week at the auditions for the NBC show, "The Voice." Photo credit: Steve Dunkelberger

So, you picked up a free and excellent - if we do say so myself - alt rag. You checked out the stories. You read the reviews. You grabbed some expert sex advice. What's a person to do after all that on a Saturday in Tacoma?

How about the Tacoma Maritime Festival, Mackeywood at The Spar, Kim Archer Band at the Tempest Lounge and Grit City Fest inside Hell's Kitchen?

That's the path Weekly Volcano photographer Steve Dunkelberger chose.

Young pirates invaded the Tacoma Maritime Festival.

Doug Mackey and Joe Wood at The Spar.

Kim Archer Band packed the Tempest Lounge.

Deborah Page performed at Hell's Kitchen as part of the Grit City Fest.

Big Wheel Stunt Show rocked the Grit City Fest.

PHOTOS: Hip-Hop in the Park

Now in its third year, Tacoma's annual outdoor throwdown Hip-Hop in the Park is quickly becoming a beloved summer tradition round here. The freeness, the community, the music, the good vibes - It's one big fun family outing. This year's version went down Saturday in People's Park. D.A.S.H. Center students, Reality Check Dance Team, Breaklites, Josh Rizeburg, Illaphant, Violet, and many more filled the Hilltop Tacoma park with the word. Nestled between scheduled performers were several rounds of the Freestyle MC Battle. Photographer Gene Torres caught the action.

Last Night: Wedding reception at Dorky's and Girl Trouble pasties

The wedding couple, Dawn and the "Honey Badger" Markley did their wedding their way. The ceremony was at downtown Tacoma's Fireman's Park with the reception at Dorky's Arcade. Nothing says love like a bride's veil and air hockey. She won.

And Girl Trouble rocked The New Frontier Lounge. K.P. took his shirt off again.

PHOTOS: Gaytron the Imploder survived his daredevil stunt

Everyone loves Galen McCarty Turner. Photo credit: Steve Dunkelberger

As promised, Tacoma artist Tacoman Galen McCarty Turner jumped his bicycle through glowing neon tubing last night in a dark alley at Sixth and I Street. And like last year, the alley was packed in an atmosphere that felt like a high school kegger. During pre-jump theatrics, Turner transformed into "Gaytron the Imploder" - complete with costume. Then to the roar of the crowd, he pedaled hard through a 90,000-volt wall of rare stimulated gases.

It was spectacular.

TONIGHT: Knowledge Night at Doyle's

Jeff Ross, Jessica Farr and Lean Williams applied their knowledge last Wednesday at Doyle's Public House. Photo credit: Steve Dunkelberger

Doyle's Public House in Tacoma's Stadium District mixes it up Wednesday nights. First, if the Sounder's game is on, the place is packed. Then the info geeks arrive for the Knowledge Night trivia games. Toss in the regulars, and thrill seekers trying to nab the last shot of a Jameson bottle in hopes of winning a trip for two to Ireland - and the crowd is complete.

Last Wednesday photographer Steve Dunkelberger dropped by Doyle's. A few of his shots are posted below.

Knowledge Night

Wednesdays, 8-10 p.m.
