TALK ABOUT OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM >>>

While Editor Matt Driscoll froze his ass off at SXSW, I stopped by a couple local haunts Saturday night to snap a few shots. The Afrodisiacs' disco covers attracted an older dance crowd at Jazzbones. The band hooks them in with their disco-era stage antics.

Over at Hell's Kitchen, Post Stardom Depression reunited once again to deliver their amazing sex-drench rock on Tacoma.

PHOTOS: Drive-by Holiday

WEEKLY VOLCANO: BECAUSE "SERIES" IS OUR MIDDLE NAME >>>

The holiday season has hit the South Puget Sound. Stores are stocked, the tree in front of the Pantages is lit, and you're getting your über-wholesome, sweater-clad Johnny Mathis on - right? And while you're making your wish list, we will visit South Sound stores for a reason other than shopping - the windows.

We'll post a window daily through Christmas to give you a quick jolt of holiday spirit. Ho, ho, ho!

Hell's Kitchen's last night on Sixth Avenue

RON SWARNER: A FEW FAREWELL SHOTS >>>

Hk6 Because I can't remember much past last week, I buried myself in the yellowed, crinkly piles of Weekly Volcano past issues in our archive department - which comprises a shelf, a Safeway shopping cart, and a filthy pair of Keds. I sat on the floor with a nice Fat Bastard (the wine, not the guy who does our windows once a year), and reviewed the shows I'd seen at Hell's Kitchen since it opened in 2002 - and the approximately 3,120 cocktails I'd threw back there. Punched in the side of the head at the 2004 Prong show, vertigo bout during The Posies show, chatting with Peter Buck - I've had many good times inside the Sixth Avenue club.

I dropped by Hell's Kitchen last night to toast the club's final night on Sixth Avenue (read the full story on its move downtown here).

Hk4 Hk2 Hk9 Hk3 Booking agent Flash told me the new downtown location might be ready by mid-December, but it WILL be open for a free local bands show on New Year's Eve.

MICHAEL SWAN: CRUISING AROUND THE PHOTO HOT SPOT >>>

Spleen1 Spleen2 Scanning the Weekly Volcano's Photo Hot Spot Flickr site I noticed a few photos posted from the Paris Spleen's Halloween 2009 show, which was their farewell gig, too. The photos are actually of the band preparing for the show - snapped by Kris Crews. Click here to see more form the show.

100th Monkey Halloween photos

RON SWARNER: YOU CAN THANK ME LATER >>>

Last night I saw Doug Mackey's ass. I saw it a lot. I even looked at it for several minutes today - trying to decide if I should post it on this blog.

I decided to pass on the ass. You can thank me later.

Last night the 100th Monkey party was held at the Fabulous Fifties Hall on St. Helens Avenue. The party was a typical Monkey affair  - with an added Halloween costume element.

Below are a few snapshots I took - including a "frontal" shot of Mackey.
