OWEN TAYLOR: HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY HOW MUCH I RESPECT CHRIS SUTTON? >>>

Hornet Leg I first saw Chris Sutton play a Hornet Leg show in Olympia’s premier tiny venue, aptly named “The World’s Smallest Venue” â€" which was a crawlspace at “Funtabulon.” I decided to take a crash course in overcoming claustrophobia by lying on my stomach, shimmying sideways and cramming myself into the wedge between the floor and ceiling. Steeping in the penetrating dankness that is Olympia coupled with the utter disdain for deodorant that’s rampant in this town, I was about a Chuck Woolery two-and-two away from freaking out. It was Sutton’s dreamy vocals through an echo pedal running from a four track playing drum loops that calmed my near paranoia. I closed my eyes and let the dubbed-out soul of Olympia’s finest session player help me overcome a useless fear. Tonight, Le Voyeur invites you to do the same when Sutton returns to debut the new Hornet Leg sound with recent additions Bob Desaulniers and Robert Comitz.

[Le Voyeur, with Western Hymn, Mona Reels, 9 p.m., no cover, 404 Fourth Ave., Olympia, 360.943.5710]
