Dancing Under the Stars at Tempest

As if July 8's Out in the Park wasn't enough love, you won't want to miss Tempest that evening for Dancing Under the Stars from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tempest is sweeping off their deck and hosting DJ Julie Herrera. Beats, booze and booty shaking will abound.  Keep an eye out for the awesome girls wearing the shirts that say "We're Larry's b**ches."  I feel the same way about Larry the bartender. I'd like to fold him up and put him in my pocket to save him for later, or just be his b**ches, which is probably more likely. â€" Natasha

Tacoma Old Town Blues Festival

Tacoma is simply teeming with talented blues artists, and once a year that fact is demonstrated full blast at the Tacoma Old Town Blues Festival. This Saturday from noon to 1 a.m. over 15 blues bands at five venues will blur the lines between verse and chorus with blazing solos, soulful crooning and lovable tunes both old and new. The published lineup includes Nick Vigarino and The Meantown Blues, Lil' Dave Thompson, Bump Kitchen, Loose Gravel & The Quarry, Blues Alliance, Little Bill,  Butterbean, Rusty Williams Band, Witherspoon, Michal Miller Band, Curley Cook and Annette Taborn, Steve Cheseborough, Zero Down Blues Band and Pleasant Fools Band. The Melvins at MusicfestNW

Never a band to settle, the Melvins â€" yeah, those same Melvins who inspired Kurt Cobain to play punk rock two decades ago â€" will bring in their two rock chords to MusicfestNW. Old punks never die . . . they just occasionally smell that way.  More story here. â€" Brad Allen

Weezer calls it quits?

Weezer might be a geezer.
Rivers Cuomo told MTV that the band is on indefinite hiatus.

  • MTV reports: "For the moment we are done," he said. "And I'm not certain we'll ever make a record again, unless it becomes really obvious to me that we need to do one."

Sleater-Kinney adds second show

I guess all the crying worked.
Sleater-Kinney added a second show Aug. 12 at Portland's Crystal Ballroom after fans complained that scalpers scored most of the tickets to their original final show, Aug. 11 at the Crystal Ballroom.  Ticket will go on sale Saturday, July 15 at Ticketmaster outlets.
The Crystal Ballroom also announced that it will be releasing 250 more tickets for the Aug. 11 show.
To keep scalpers at bay the Crystal Ballroom has devised a plan.  Check out the ticket purchase plan on the band's Web site.
Oh, and sorry to those who thought they were seeing S-K's last show ever. â€" Brad Allen
