It's a new week, which means it's time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki's South Sound music news and notes column. Without further ado, let's get rolling...
It doesn't pain Bobble Tiki to admit it - he liked the world a lot better in the battle days, back in Bobble Tiki's youth - when Thunderbirds were still cool and boxed wine was still uncool. Things were simpler then, and it fit Bobble Tiki like a glove - or a pair of crotch hugging Levis packed with rolled up tube socks.
The tunes of this time in Bobble Tiki's life, heavy on the Zeppelin and Hendrix, are still what Bobble Tiki imagines his personal soundtrack to be. Dangerous and dead-on, Randy Hansen's Jimi Hendrix tribute act, set to plug in this Saturday at Jazzbones, is as close as one can get to the real thing - and Bobble Tiki doesn't heap such praise lightly. No, Bobble Tiki doesn't appreciate imposters or exploiters, but Hansen is neither - his Hendrix act is tribute band perfection.
Bobble Tiki recommends you witness the fire yourself, and have some sushi while you're at it.
Speaking of things nutritious to one's heart, mind and soul - the Weekly Volcano's blog, Spew, has some hot shit going right now. Earlier this week, we caught up with Nathan Markiewicz of Tacoma's quasi-pop-experimental darlings, LA Lungs. LA Lungs have an all ages show coming up Saturday at the Den, and we wanted to chew the fat about it - online.
Even better, though - not only did we track down Markiewicz for a Spew write-up, but in the process we learned a little about Markiewicz's side project, En Nem, and found out Markiewicz will be the director of this year's Olympia Experimental Music Festival - happening in June.
