Concert Alert: Guttermouth coming to Tacoma

Hot off a tour through Australia, Guttermouth returns to TAcoma for a MArch 2 show at the Backstage Bar & Grill. Press publicity photo

Next to the question "Don't you ever shut up?" Bobble Tiki's mother, the saintly Mrs. Tiki, was most often heard to ask her precious Bobble when he was young "Aren't you ever happy?"

"Well, excuse Bobble Tiki for living!" was his usual snappy reply - even then charmingly referring to himself in the third person.

But Mrs. Tiki had a point. Is Bobble Tiki ever happy?  On rare occasions, such as today when local music promoter Flash send Bobble Tiki a heads up on his Guttermouth Show March 2 at the Backstage Bar & Grill.

Combining the best parts of the oral tradition and street-side drainage systems, Huntington Beach's Guttermouth serves its punk rock fast, loud and snottily enough to make Bobble Tiki don his "Don't Make Me Get Out My Flying Monkeys" T-shirt for the show. The band will provide a night full of songs about fecal matter, your mother, unhealthy relationships with farm animals and more four-letter words than you can shake a forest full of sticks at.

Opening for Guttermouth will be Boldtype, Neutralboy, The Uncivil and South 11th

[Backstage Bar & Grill, Friday, March 2, 8 p.m., $12 advance, $15 door, 6409 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, 253.564.0149]

Van HALEN coming to the T-Dome May 5

LET HIS SPIRIT BE UNCHAINED >>>

UPDATE: Tickets for Van Halen and openers Kool & the Gang (natch!) go one sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 through Ticketmaster, LiveNation.com and or charge by phone 1.800.745.3000. Ticket prices haven't been released.

As KZOK FM and Tacoma KOMO reported yesterday, Van Halen will hit the road with a stop May 5 at the Tacoma Dome.

To be precise, it's Van Halen, not Van Hagar. The band is, once again, front by David Lee Roth back by the Van Halen brothers and Wolfgang Van Halen on bass.Credible rock fans agree: David Lee Roth is the only legit Halen frontman.

Any Van Halen track with the Red Rocker's eardrum-searing caterwaul and milksop lyrics might as well be struck from rock 'n' roll's permanent record. Everything else Van Halen did, from strutting rockers like Fair Warning's "Mean Streets" to chops-busting rave-ups like 1984's "Hot for Teacher," should be sent by unmanned spaceship to each corner of the galaxy, so emerging civilizations can get proper, early training in the rock 'n' roll arts.

We'll let you know when tickets go on sale.

Yes, he's here in about a month.

Word is he's not going to be as obstinate about revisiting his past as he's been in the, er, past. Translation: He's playing his hits.

Tacoma is catching the tail end of Prince's Canadian tour.

Tickets for the Prince concert go on sale Saturday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster and Live Nation outlets. Prices haven't been announced.

On Sale Now: Peter Frampton to play Tacoma

Peter Frampton

DIG IT >>>

Odds are you were the guy who, while driving, mimicked Frampton's talk box on "Do You Feel Like We Do," pausing every few minutes to adjust the huge yellow comb in your back pocket. But maybe now you felt a little guilty for it? Perhaps loving it that much, the fact that it actually moved you to drop the hip mask and rock out mades you feel stupid?

Maybe it's time to just dig it for what it is.

Grammy Award winning rock guitarist and songwriter Peter Frampton is on tour behind the 35th anniversary of his Frampton Comes Alive! album - one of the best-selling live album of all time - hitting Tacoma's Pantages Theater this coming March. CONCERT ALERT: Rammstein returning to Tacoma Dome in 2012

LOTS OF FIRE >>>

Rammstein's motto is, "Do your own thing, and overdo it." And that "thing" begins and ends with fire.

Weekly Volcano scribe Ernest A. Jasmin was 30 yards from the stage for most of the band's show at the Tacoma Dome this past May. Jasmin says. "it felt like being blasted in the face with a blow dryer as huge, flaming geysers erupted from the stage throughout." You may read his full review here.

"We're not talking some stock Motley Crue bullshit. We're talking best use of fire - ever," Jasmin wrote.

The Berlin-based band announced it has included a Tacoma Dome show on its 2012 North Americna Tour, bringing the fire to Tacoma May 14.

Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster outlets Saturday, Dec. 3. Prices haven't been announced.
