COMMENT OF THE DAY: One pumped Reverend

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from our own Rev. Adam McKinney who became excited after seeing the 2012 Squeak and Squawk Music Festival video Kris Crews produced.

Rev. McKinney writes,

Please ignore the extremely tired, rambling guy at the beginning of the video. That montage at the end gets me so pumped. I just want to go back and experience it all again. Can't wait for SQSQ 2013.

COMMENT OF THE DAY: The House Jack destroyed

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from Jack who paid a visit to the Lobster House in Tacoma's Lincoln District. Jack may or may not have been baked. What is for certain is his distaste for the Lobster House.

Jack writes,

Okay, so I'm a little late, sue me. I ventured out to Lobster House around 4pm. Parking was easy on the street (this area can be a real pain sometimes). Walked in, and the place is pretty spartan and vibes of seventies paneling and disco balls are heavy in the air. There's two other parties in, a four top and a deuce. I take the gunslingers seat (back corner, facing the door), and a cute young Asian girl came by with a smile,a pot of tea and two menu pages (laminated, single page, single side menus, one for regular menu items, the other a very short dim sum menu). Sometimes there's a good laugh in just getting thru an Asian menu. Between the typos and bad pictures, it can be a good laugh. At any rate, the options on either menu were pretty limited. Maybe fifteen items on the dim sum, and not a lot more on the regular menu. I was very disappointed with the dim sum menu. There was Xui Mai, steamed spareribs, the aforementioned "football dumplings, and some other stuff that was just not that great sounding or looking ( the pictures on the laminated menu helped nothing). On the regular menu, there are some downright ugly pictures of food that I tried to avoid as much as possible (food photography is an art and can make or break a menu, these weren't making any impressions). The picture of a crab dish was, well, let's say unappetizing. Orange colored crab in an orange colored sauce with some chunky stuff in it...need I elaborate?

COMMENT OF THE DAY: Zhsa says sleepy Lakewood man is a liar

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from Zhsa who doesn't not beleive, not for one second, the sleepy young Lakewood man can't remember how a bullet got lodged in his arm.

Zhsa writes,

Maybe I've watched too much television, but I think he's a big, fat liar. He was involved with a crime where he cannot identify his assailants because perhaps he was either a) afraid of revenge or more likely, b) committed a gun crime himself. Nobody forgets a gunshot wound or at least some of the things leading up to it. Although, the original blog entry was unclear as to whether any of his belongings were stolen. If they were not, I suspect that the victim knows a lot more than he is saying.

COMMENT OF THE DAY: Leave the Hobo Prince alone

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from Steve in defense of the Hobo Prince, who Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler's office came down hard on.

Steve writes,

Just let the man do what he wants, and that's to help out people, if this were fraud he would be in jail. I see many people talking Crap about Mr. Bell, let him finish his Hobo Prince Economic Project so I can get on with my life! I believe in what he is doing and never that I seen was he selling Ins. When something so good comes along to help people out, others come along and want to put a Stop to it. I say You STOP what your doing and let him finish what he has started,
Thanks Steve

COMMENT OF THE DAY: Alan Oldstudent replies to Occupy Tacoma story

ONLINE CHATTER:

Today's comment of the day comes from blogger Alan Oldstudent in response to Paul Schrag's cover story "Occupy Tacoma: Where are they now?" Oldstudent is one of Occupy Tacoma's online editors.

Alan Oldstudent writes,

Paul Schrag's interesting article of April 5 titled "Occupy Tacoma, Where Are They Now?" poses a question that many of us in OT (Occupy Tacoma) have. What have we accomplished? Where are we going? What's next?

I am one of OT's web-masters editors. Fair disclosure: This response is my personal point of view and is not an official statement from OT.

The people you cited, Dennis Lucas, Sarah Morken, and Francesca Belez, are but a few of the many dedicated and serious people for whom OT and related movements have become a passion.

Today, April 7th, it has only been 6 months and 21 days since Occupy Wall Street (OWS) began, and it's been 5 months and 22 days since Occupy Tacoma seized the park. That's a very short time, and in that short time, we changed the public's discussion of politics

Debates about how fast to cut the middle class standard of living were practically all that the media, politicians, and pundits discussed before September 17, 2011, the first day of Occupy Wall Street. Few, if any, of the wise men or pillars of the political establishment, liberal or conservative, questioned the wisdom of these cuts. Their debate was mainly about how fast they dare make them, not whether they were needed or whether we 99% should pay.

Now, the public dares to question the legitimacy of those cuts. In fact, the 99% are beginning to question the legitimacy of crony capitalism and the 1%'s monopoly of political power. In short, we Americans are becoming class conscious for the first time in nearly a century. That's why we OWS supporters are corporate America's worst nightmare.

Not everyone is happy about that. Hackers took down our website for almost 2 weeks, and we've only just gotten back on line. Between 03/08/2012 04:49 am UTC and 04/07/2012 at 4:48 am UTC, 8891 unique visitors from around the world have visited www.occupytacoma.org, despite it having been down for a good part of that time.

I spoke about these matters in the last speech anyone ever gave at Tacoma's Occupation Park, a day before we left. You can view that speech on YouTube here:
http://youtu.be/2gnxy3w_qes

I also wrote an open letter to the Mayor of Tacoma concerning our tactics and why we did not resist Washington State's illegitimate eviction notice. That letter has also been videotaped and is available on YouTube:

Alan OldStudent

COMMENT OF THE DAY: Watch where you are pointing that thing!

CRASHING THE GUN CLUB: Pistols and Petticoats meets every Monday night at the Bulls Eye Shooting Range in Tacoma. Photo credit: Patrick Snapp

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from It's Me! in response to Nikki Talotta's story on Olympia's all-female shooting club Pistols and Petticoats.

It's Me! Writes,

I'd be pissed if I was in the lane next to the woman in the blue shirt. It looks like she's pointing the gun directly at the lane barrier next to her.

Comment of the Day: In Jack Connelly's corner

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from TheRealTruth who chimes in on the chatter revolving around a blog post on Jack Connelly's campaign kickoff at the LeMay Museum.

TheRealTruth writes,

I hope that people do learn about Jack Connelly. He has been a fighter for women's rights. Today Division I of the Court of Appeals put out a decision upholding a case he won on behalf of a woman who had been killed in a domestic violence situation after obtaining an anti harassment order. He took the case on behalf of her two daughters to prevent similar domestic violence deaths in the future. Jack also recently represented a lesbian woman who had been severely injured up in Seattle. Even more importantly, Jack is exceptionally strong on the issues that matter to the residents of this District – education, jobs and the economy. I hope you also learn the truth as Jack will be an outstanding Senator for this District.

COMMENT OF THE DAY: Darby's original owners still at it

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from Keith Lampard, in regards to Darby's Café's Tournament of Breakfast battle, which happens to be underway here. It seems Lampard, one of the original owners of Darby's, can't get the restaurant business out of his system.

Lampard writes,

Some place most locals have not been informed of is owned by the original Darby's cafe owners, Mark and Keith. We now share a partnership with the Dickersons, owners of The Pig on Legion, of the Southbay Pub & Eatery at 3323 Southbay Rd NE. Breakfast on weekends 8:am - 2ish:pm is Mark and Keith's gig. The old duo is at it again with their bad tableside manners, eclectic decor and great home style cooking.

COMMENT OF THE DAY: She's not a dunker!

ONLINE CHATTER >>>

Today's comment of the day comes from J Laboe in response to Steph DeRosa's Person, Place or Thing post on The Art of Crunch Biscotti will be famous. J Laboe isn't the first to claim Tacoman Ronda Hamlin's biscotti are already famous, but J Laboe is the most recent.

J Laboe writes,

Love the Cranberry. I don't dunk, but my husband does. I send it out at Christmas to friends all over the country. We get ask where we get it and I tell them. You will find it in KS, TN, AK and WA. Working on the rest of the states now. ...
