Snap!
COFFEE COMING BACK TO SIXTH AND NORTH STATE >>>
Back in the early '90s, Café WA was a favorite spot for Tacoma's music scenesters. I interviewed bands inside the coffeehouse, sipping mochas (thankfully kicked that habit) and nibbling on tasty sandwiches.
Like the grunge bands, Café WA disappeared, eventually becoming Rector's Antiques & Wardrobe at the 2201 Sixth Ave. address.
Rector's recently closed, too.
Then the hammering began.
Peaking our heads inside we learned that Bluebeard Coffee Roasters would be taking over the spot sometime in October if the permit process runs smoothly, which it usually doesn't if roasting is involved.
Stay tuned for more details.

Now, I love coffee as much as the next guy...some would say even more, but ANOTHER coffee shop down the street from the other twenty that just popped open? No, I didn't count them. There's probably more like five. Or fifteen. Is there some rapture scheduled that I don't know about yet?
Different sub-topic...curious if the landlord informed the new tenants about the flooding that they will face in the winter months. They seem to have skipped over that part in at least the last tenant...

How about if we move the Ethiopian restaurant into this space--the one that got shanghaied by a lack of parking. That's what this town actually needs.

While it certainly makes me happy to see new businesses opening in Tacoma, I hope the coffee market doesn't get saturated. You know, I can only drink SO much coffee.
And on my own unrelated note - Tap into T-Town 6th Ave style, Melanie??? Yes? One of the trivia questions being: How many coffee shops on 6th Ave?

Oh yeah! And at the time cafe WA was open, every time I drove by I thought of this guy:

Still think of him when the name Cafe WA comes up.

I second the motion for an Ethiopian restaurant -- if not at 6th and State, then somewhere in T-Town...
