This news release just arrived on our Teletype Model 33 ASR teleprinter. The Steno Pool ripped it off and dashed it up to me. Sounds as if Olympia businesses are on to something:

The businesses of downtown Olympia invite you to participate in the SHOP DOWNTOWN FOR THE HOLIDAYS SWEEPSTAKES! There will be something for everyone at this 10-day "First Friday" extended event. Beginning Friday, November 25 through Sunday, December 4, for every $10 purchased at participating businesses, customers will receive a sweepstakes entry into a drawing for $500 in gift certificates from downtown businesses. Shops will stay open late on Friday night (December 2) for your shopping convenience.

Shift Your Shopping in Tacoma

Up here in the North Pole, we're all hearing a lot of talk this holiday season about shopping local and what it means to a community. In these tough economic times, shoppers are striving to make their holiday dollars count. The word just came through the North Pole Wire that 150 local business alliances and national independent business advocates are teaming up to launch "Shift Your Shopping," a program that begins today.

Tacoma's Go Local organization is part of the national campaign. Not only did the Tacoma organization have a say in the title of the campaign - which sounds very similar to Go Local's "Shift Happens" campaign - but Tacoma's Hemisphere Design & Marketing Creative Director Heather Stajgr designed the logo, which is posted above.

Ho, ho, ho Tacoma.
