“His Master’s Voice” Grammaphone sits at La Galerie in downtown Tacoma.

Get the DJ in your life a “His Master’s Voice” Grammaphone, but make sure you forbid the DJ from scratching on it. This is the machine that changed the way we listen to music. This Grammaphone replaced earlier efforts to play recorded music. At the beginning of the 20th century, Emile Berliner introduced the turntable, replacing cylinder formats introduced by Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell.
The sound that comes out of one of these old Grammaphones is exquisite. I remember when elf Jangle spun the hell out of George
M. Cohen's "The Small Town Gal" and Ada Jones' "All She Gets the Iceman Is Ice" on this Grammaphone at the North Pole Historical Society's Tinsel Tunes Gala in 1908.
I found a “His Master’s Voice” Grammaphone ($550) at La Galerie in Tacoma's Antique Row. It's a beauty, is in good shape, runs on a hand crank, works well and comes with replacement needles.
