I don't know how Americans do it. The last thing I want to do is fight my way through a department store at 4 a.m. just so I can grope a cheap waffle maker before sunrise. I don't the whole Black Friday thing. It seems soulless to me, as well as the gleaming capitalist leviathan at its most violent and orgasmic.
If you are looking for a more soulful, local shopping experience after Thanksgiving, may I suggest the Gritty City Gift Fair in downtown Tacoma. Jada-Moon Gridley has created an environment void
of frantic zombified credit-carded bodies fighting over pallets of heavily-discounted Vitamix 5200 Ultramax Packages.
With community in mind, and live music to soothe, Gridley has hand picked local vendors offering treasures made from green and reclaimed materials, as well as artisan consumables.
Click here for scenes from last year's Gritty City Gift Fair.
Come find your center ... and an awesome silk scarf.
