Home of Riot Grrrl, K Records, The Evergreen State College, and the best crappy beer you can get, Olympia is the perfect place to fill the musical void in your life. With a constant forecast of rain, an abundance of hairy armpits and the freshest green, creative minds flourish in this little town. Somehow this unique combination produces one of the best underground music scenes you can find. On Feb. 17, 2011 the Weekly Volcano published its Best of Olympia 2011 and it certainly included Oly's music scene - not only revealing the best bands, clubs, albums and such, but also in the issue's overall design. The print version rocked it like it was 1992!
Olympia is also much more than just music. The Weekly Volcano spent the past 12 months dining, drinking, sneaking around the Capitol Campus, and shopping our way across Thurston County - yes Lacey, Tumwater and outlining towns are part of the special issue, too.
And now the Best of Olympia 2011 is online, too.
Special thanks to Editor Matt Driscoll for commanding this issue, Olympia artist Sarah Utter for her amazing artwork and Devin True for running around town with his camera. – Ron and Ken Swarner, publishers
The Best of Olympia 2011 is sponsored by The Washington Center for the Performing Arts.
