It isn't easy being sexy. The Tacoma faces you'll see within these pages know that all too well.
But, as difficult as it is being sexy - from the excess amount of lusty gazes one receives in the supermarket to the pain that comes from knowing you look better in jeans than most - it may have been even more difficult to put together the Weekly Volcano's first annual Tacoma's Most Sexy Issue.
We worked tirelessly, and we hope it shows. I feel like we've really created something that will soon become tradition, and that's exciting.
What is the Tacoma's Most Sexy Issue?
More than just poor construction of the English language, the Tacoma's Most Sexy Issue is just what it sounds like - a most wanted list of sorts, spotlighting some of Tacoma's most recognizable - and sexy - faces, as voted by you the Weekly Volcano reader.
Not just cliché sex appeal, of no relation to AXE Deodorant Body Spray campaigns, and certainly much more than mere looks, the Volcano wanted an answer to the simple question: What defines Tacoma sexiness?
We think this issue - and the Tacoma's Most Sexy Issues of years to come - will go a long way toward providing an answer.
Over the course of a month readers let their voices be heard, loud and clear, choosing winners in nine categories ranging from Tacoma's Sexiest Vet Tech to Tacoma's Sexiest Political Figure. The response was amazing, and whether or not most of you thought your mouse clicking would eventually lead to a Paris Hilton sex tape, the fact is we received a ton of votes. We thank our readers for their participation. Without you, the Tacoma's Most Sexy Issue would have never been possible.
After the winners were chosen by readers came the often strange and awkward challenge of contacting all of this year's Tacoma's Most Sexy victors and talking them into participating. Since this is the first annual Tacoma's Most Sexy Issue, the feat usually took some explaining. Reassurances like, "I promise this isn't a garage calendar," and "We're not doing anything disgusting here" became commonplace. Thankfully, to their credit, all of our winners eagerly agreed to play along.
More than anything, I'd like to thank this year's Tacoma's Most Sexy. They posed for pictures, filled out questionnaires, and generally did everything we asked them to do to make this issue a reality. I'm not sure why they trusted us, but the important thing is they did - and all of their participation made this issue what it is - very Tacoma sexy, and very awesome. May all of this year's Tacoma's Most Sexy live long and prosper with their now well-documented Tacoma sex appeal.
Lastly - thank gawd for Jason Ganwich. The man behind the camera for all of the amazing photos that make up the Tacoma's Most Sexy Issue - this effort would have literally been nothing without him. He scheduled and pulled off 12 individual portraits and the cover shot over the course of less than two weeks - and he captured all of our winners expertly. Perhaps most amazingly, amidst all of it, I only thought Jason might stab me on two occasions, and that was when his light changed - which is totally understandable for a photographer.

I think your piece on the sexiest tacoma dwellers was a great idea. I do wish that you would have been just a bit more thorough in your search for proper candidates... Your choice for sexiest secretary for example. Karen Rivera isnt even a secretary!! She is an operator at a credit union though, imagine that!!! plus I thought you had to be sexy too!!!lol sorry ! like I said , I mean no disrespect...

Definately could have found a better barista in my opinion. You could have even searched outside of the box instead of just going along with the Tacoma group where everyone looks cliche'....because they are. I am going to go throw on my brandname t-shirt, brandname pants and go get some booze at MSM. This was probably the most horrible article I have ever read in here, thanks.

did you guys post pics and ask ppl to vote?? who voted or recommended these "winners"?? i know we as in tacoma is a little on the emo/tat/wierdo side but really could we have gotten a more diverse looking group?? next time voters "readers" should be able to submit candidates and then you narrow it down.. seems like a pretty "personal" expression of sexy!! as in whoever did this article.. BOOOO. (not saying that you guys aren't great looking ppl) but come on..BOOOOOOO
