Locals earn mention in Food & Wine Magazine
Posted: Dec 27, 2007 by Jennifer Johnson
Getting mentioned in a high profile, well-regarded national magazine throughout the year is nothing to scoff at. Being mentioned twice in the 100 Tastes to Try in 2008 January issue is quite impressive. Our sister city to the north has achieved just that in Food & Wine. Josh Henderson created Skillet, an Airstream trailer that’s been redone into a mobile kitchen serving up “oh so tasty” Canadian inspired hangover food — cheddar cheese doused fries — on the streets of Seattle. Henderson is starting 2008 out with an additional trailer, too.
By the way, more yum-yum heads our way. Tacoma fave lounge Tempest co-owner Michelle Douglas’ brother and awesome chef Tom Douglas will host a Culinary Summer Camp this coming July. I’ll keep you posted.
Give Food & Wine’s list concept a personal spin. New Year’s is the perfect time to clear off your fridge, throw away expired coupons, outdated schedules, notes to self, and begin anew.
Grab a pen and jot down things you want to change, experience, taste, see or learn. Live with purpose and intent, but keep it simple and practical to increase the likelihood of actually accomplishing them. And remember, there’s no pressure, no pop quiz, no test at the end and no permanent record.
1. Look at and ponder something beautiful for 10 uninterrupted minutes. No phone or TV distraction allowed. Sitting quietly required.
2. Join a Book Discussion Group for one book/month. No pressure. Do it once or keep going.
3. Eat adventurously. Try something you think will be gross.
4. Say “Hello” to strangers. Take one day and say hi to every person you see.
