They always bring their A game

Too Slim and the Taildraggers play Jazzbones Saturday.

Too Slim and the Taildraggers call Seattle home these days, at least according to their Web site (www.tooslim.org) but that doesn’t mean the band’s Spokane roots aren’t as blaring as ever. Spokane is where Too Slim originated, and the city was obviously the perfect breeding ground for the band’s vision of original blues and rockabilly. Though Tim “Too Slim” Langford has been unquestionably accepted on this side of the Cascades, the dust on their tunes will always reek of Eastern Washington, and their cowboy boots will always seem a little more natural over there.

I ain’t complaining, though. To have Too Slim and the Taildraggers only 30 miles up the road, available for shows like their performance at Jazzbones, this Saturday, Oct. 6, is a blessing. I’ll take all the Too Slim I can get.

Too Slim and the Taildragger’s most recent CD, Fortune Teller, released in February of this year, is the band’s 17th album. By the time things are said and done it may end up being regarded as the band’s best and most successful. In September, Fortune Teller was the number nine blues album on the Billboard Charts. It entered at number 10 and — judging by the reaction of fans — seems to be picking up steam.

Every time Too Slim and the Taildraggers play Jazzbones, it’s a night to remember. Langford never brings anything less than his A game, and his fans always reciprocate. There’s no reason to think this Saturday will be any different.  — Matt Driscoll
