The Clover Park School District board of directors held a special meeting/workshop last night at the Student Services Center on Gravelly Lake Drive. The Weekly Volcano went to press before the outcome, but we can only imagine they discussed the obstacles they will face in the coming year. “Everything. Meeting adjourned.” EVEN
A stolen 1997 Honda Civic was fished out of Wapato Lake Friday morning by the Metro Dive Rescue Team. No body was found. Damn you, hidden lake! Even. Wait, we forgot The Trib’s nonstop online coverage of the car in Wapato Lake. It was a three-day saga — with minute by minute updates. We’re sure the entire South Sound was on the edge of their seats. PLUS 1
A collaboration between the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and the cities of Milton, Edgewood, and Fife has just been announced. Together the dynamic team will produce workshops that will help area residents develop environmentally sensitive landscaping practices. These workshops alone would be reason No. 445 of why Washington is considered America’s No. 1 tree-hugging state. PLUS 1
As of Wednesday morning, voters in Ruston were saying “no thank you” to a proposition that would change the town’s form of government to city manager style. If the vote holds up, the next move for Ruston to save itself is electing an almost entirely new City Council. Baby steps. PLUS 2
Tacoma seems to have finally elected Robert “the Traveller” Hill to office — kind of. According to early election results, Hill is well on his way to becoming a precinct officer for the 27th — having received a whopping 65.88 percent of the vote. For those with the strange belief that government should be interesting, the news can be considered nothing but good. PLUS 3
Pacific Lutheran University President Loren Anderson was the only Washington state college president to sign an initiative that would lower the drinking age to 18 — an initiative that over 100 other college presidents from around the country have signed and circulated in hopes of fostering a discussion about a drinking age they say isn’t working. We at the Weekly Volcano support Anderson for taking the lead in our state. The drinking age discussion is one that deserves its time, and plus — it just doesn’t seem fair that kids are old enough to be shipped off to some godforsaken desert to kill “terrorists,” but not old enough to kick back a Coors Light after doing so. Metro Parks announced that come November a large Chihuly exhibit will go on display in Wright Park. Just what Tacoma needs: More fucking Chihuly. MINUS 1
