Another normal week even with dangerous dogs.

Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg has announced a plan to hire a consultant to explore the possibility of working with Illinois-based KemperSports Management to build a new clubhouse, restaurant and hotel at Chambers Bay golf course in University Place. As long as the hotel provides rooms for undersheltered Tacoma Convention Center visitors — PLUS 1

Inc. Magazine has ranked Tacoma as the No. 2 most business-friendly city, among mid-sized cities, in the whole country. Tacoma was ranked No. 14 among All American cities. My aren’t we fancy now. PLUS 2

Last Friday, July 18, vicious pit bulls attacked a women and her dog in Northeast Tacoma seriously injuring both of them. The women’s husband, who was eventually able to fend off the dangerous dogs, also sustained injuries. This is bad news all around. It’s bad for the bitten — without question — but also bad for pit bulls in Pierce County. No doubt talk of banning the breed, as other cities have done, will only intensify thanks to this sad situation. If pit bulls could talk, they’d point out that not long ago they were considered an “All American Dog,” and the real problem lies with conscienceless backyard breeders and irresponsible owners who turn good dogs vicious. Hopefully Tacoma bans assholes like that instead. MINUS 3

Meth heads stay busy, you’ve got to give them that. For, like, the one billionth time last week, industrious thieves stole 6,000 feet of copper wire used to light the freeway — this time targeting the ramps near 72nd Street on Interstate 5. Once again, a portion of the freeway was left in the dark. And, of course, the wire will now need to be replaced. Check back next week for a similar story. MINUS 2

The state awarded the City of Lakewood $530,000 this week to establish a countywide automobile theft task force. No word if anti-gambling activist David Anderson will gather petitions on the huge gamble. PLUS 2

Even with the astonishing spread of lazy slackerhood due to cell phones and iPods and excess TV and Playstations and MySpace and Taco Bell Double-Supremo Burrito, most Tacoma School District elementary schools don’t schedule recess outside of lunchtime. School Board members are studying whether more out-of-class exercise time is needed for today’s kids. No decision was made this week due to a school board recess. PLUS 1
