Church of Hate
Still hating after 10 years

Church of Hate is a Tacoma staple — like Frisco Freeze or Chihuly or bums pulling crack out of their asses. For 10 years now the boys in the Church of Hate have been bludgeoning eardrums all over our fair city with Slayer-like riffs, breakneck beats and disparaging and vile lyrical content — to the delight of the metal masses who know better than to take the band too seriously. That’s the beauty of the Church of Hate.
While the Church of Hate probably enjoys fake blood and face paint more than most Tacomans, just like everyone they have birthdays. This Friday, June 20, Church of Hate drummer Owen Money will celebrate his with a show by his band at Hell’s Kitchen.
So what can you expect from a Church of Hate birthday?
Musically, the band will probably pull from three albums worth of hate — the appropriately titled records, First Six, Second Six, and Third Six that have helped earn the band their legion of loyal followers. In terms of the debauchery, I’d say anything goes. Expect nastiness. Expect a heavy helping of blasphemy. Expect tastelessness to flow like PBR.
Owen Money’s birthday bash at Hell’s Kitchen Friday promises to be the biggest spectacle this weekend has to offer — face paint, fake blood and all. If you’re a metalhead not easily offended, and you don’t go to birthday parties for the cake and ice cream, this one’s for you.
