It’s a win-win situation as spring approaches our City of Destiny. Colorful trees are in full bloom, visually enhancing the beautiful historic streets of Tacoma. And although this wreaks havoc on the nostrils of most allergy sufferers, tissue sales support a much needed economic boost. PLUS 1
Tacoma Art Museum celebrated five years in its new building Saturday. Since the move, TAM has offered consistently high-class showings and installations and become a cornerstone of the community. TAM also recently launched its new Web site, complete with plenty of new, interactive options like Twitter feeds and a place to upload photos to TAM’s Flickr feed. PLUS 1
Martin Luther King Housing Development Association announced that it’s getting out of the homeless shelter businesses and will hand off management responsibilities for the Kings Center to another, yet-to-be-chosen agency. The announcement follows news that city officials yanked funding for the center. MINUS 2
According to numbers released this week by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service home prices and sales dropped again last month in Pierce County. The median price of a home in Pierce County was down 4.3 percent from this time a year ago — which marks the seventh time in eight months prices have dropped in a year-over-year comparison. Oh, by the way, sales fell by 18.9 percent. What recession? MINUS 2
The Tacoma Pierce County Chamber was sued on Monday by one former and one current employee — both of whom claim that a female manager at the Chamber has created a hostile work environment full of offensive racial and sexual comments and even some occasional unwanted touching. From the allegations of the lawsuit, the Chamber’s manager of member services and marketing Judie Lloyd has been accused of inappropriately patting the buttocks of a male employee — among other, more egregious things. While female on male sexual harassment might seem hot, it’s totally not. MINUS 3
