“sleeping beauty”

Tacoma Little Theatre presents the classic tale of "Sleeping Beauty" starting this weekend. This retelling of "Sleeping Beauty" by Charles Way maintains its major themes, but features a headstrong princess and additional characters, including Gryff, a half-man, half-dragon creature and a riddle-challenging Spider King.

[Tacoma Little Theatre, Nov. 9-Dec. 2, 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, $18-$22, 210 N. I St., Tacoma, 253.272.228, www.tacomalittletheatre.com.

“metaphasia”

Encore! Theater is staging a new work, “Metaphasia,” as its indoor-season musical through Nov. 18. This coming-of-age musical centered on Angie Anderson weaves adventure with upbeat, original tunes and colorful costumes as it takes a radical new look at “Twelve Dancing Princesses” and the likes of “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” and the wizardry of some dude named Harry Potter.

[Encore! Theater, through Nov 18, $6-$15, 6615 38th Ave., Gig Harbor, www.encoretheater.org]

“closer”

Prodigal Sun Productions stages the romantic tale of “Closer.” This award-winning script examines the fragility of the heart as it looks at modern romance involving four characters who struggle to survive in a world of deception, lies, sex and love. The performance contains partial nudity and explicit language.

[The Midnight Sun Performance Space, through Nov. 17, 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, $7-$15, 113 N. Columbia St., Olympia, 360.556.3245, www.buyolympia.com/events]
