I’m winning.
I invested in Tacoma five years ago amid such scrutiny for locating in Tacoma, let alone choosing to buy a home on the Eastside.
Now, the home I purchased has more than doubled in value and I’m just 1.5 miles away from a downtown that’s bustling with life and options.
Along with that, my humble little Eastside is improving as each week passes. There are now fantastic amenities within walking distance of my home: a nail salon, a hair salon, a coffee shop, and Mexican and teriyaki food. Woo hoo!
But the best has yet to come, and is so near.
Very soon, I’ll no longer have to hop on the #42 bus to get to Tacoma’s downtown scene because the nightlife is moving up the hill.
The Top of Tacoma Bar is set to open within the next few weeks, and there are very few Tacomans who are more excited about this than me.
I can’t provide an exact opening date because we all know how final Liquor Control Board and health inspections go, but I can say that it’s right around the corner.
I’m so happy for bartender Jaime Kay Newton who now owns the business and the building with her boyfriend, Jason J. Jones. She’s making her dream come true, and that’s so wonderful to see.
Located at 3529 McKinley Ave., right above the Tacoma Dome, the Top of Tacoma bar will feature a sweet bar, fun staff, eight beers on draft (seven of which are microbrows), cocktails, and a nice selection of wine, all at affordable prices. They’ll have daily drinks specials, a great jukebox, two pinball machines, the Golden Tee golf game, Wi-Fi, a pool table, tasty snacks, and in January an adjoining cafe will open under their auspices to serve great food.
I want to cry as I’m typing this because this bar and the café that will follow is perfectly placed within stumbling distance from my house.
You should all plan on attending the opening night of this bar because I guarantee that the place will be absolutely crawling with Tacoma celebrities. People were talking about it everywhere I went last weekend. The Husky is even planning on renting a party van for the night so none of his cohorts will have to drive drunk.
Tentatively, the opening date will be Oct. 26, but just in case those final inspections result in a few delays, what you need to do is befriend the Top of Tacoma bar on myspace: www.myspace.com/topoftacomabar. Jaime will be pimping out all of the latest details and final updates on the FUN opening night that will give this bar such a great start.
And what Jaime doesn’t know, which I guess she will now, is that I’m working on the plans for the after-hours party.
Oh my god, I’m SO winning!

I wanted to let you know that this Sat 2/16, a rally/picket will take place to help unite the community and make a statement towards the drugs and thugs hanging around the McKinley Buisness District area. In order for the area to truly prosper, they need to be gone. Hope you can make it and spread the word. The rally will begin at 11am, meeting at he super church across from Fergies. Bring a sign for the cause. . .
