Drink a cold, feed a fever

One recent blustery night, suffering from my second cold of the season but feeling like I was coughing up bird feathers and had become the first North American victim of the bird flu pandemic, I grabbed GQ Tony and Head For Numbers to test out this new proverb: “Drink a cold, feed a fever.” We decided to conduct our experiment while escaping winter at Mazatlan’s happy hour and dreaming of a trip south of the border. Our travel plans included sitting by the pool playing poker and drinking margaritas as the hot pool chick catered to our every need, fluffing our towels and strutting up with yet another icy cold Corona.

In the meantime, $2 wells, $3.25 margaritas and $5.99 Bud Lite pitches will pick up Mazatlan’s cantina Dorothy style and plop it in the real land of Mazatlan.  For munchies, taquitos, super nachos, quesadillas, cheese crisps and Mexican pizza are half off during happy hour, 4-7 p.m. daily.  Check out Taco Tuesday — 50 cent tacos with drink 3-7 p.m.

Mazatlan certainly has the fun, kitschy feel of a real Mexican joint, including a white Christmas tree and red ornaments.

This happy hour was just what the doctor ordered. I was feeling better — not to mention no pain — in no time.
